I've just landed back in Paris after being gone for one full year. Gasp!
Though I'm still rediculously jet-lagged (why oh why must it be so hard to fly east, when flying west is so easy!), I've managed to enjoy the warm afternoon weather and pick up an ispahan croissant from the Pierre Hermé shop nearby.
I never made a formal announcement on this site or social media but I've left Paris after 3 beautiful years in the city and moved back to the USA. If you want to know why I left, well... it's complicated.
Suffice to say that something happened here that made me quite uncomfortable. I'm sure you can guess, because it's happened to dozens of other Paris creators, too!
Quite simply: I don't believe the city is improving. In fact, I feel it's regressing. It's a shame, really, but I'm not a citizen of France so there is not much I can do to help it advance in the right direction.
Besides this, I am American at the end of the day and America will always be the place I call "home."
I really believe that we don't choose a home, a home chooses us.
The more you try to deny who you are, the more it catches up to you! For some, this place could be elsewhere from their place of birth, but for me it isn't. America will always have a familiarity that I cannot deny.
Being an expat is a weird, difficult experience. It's one I highly reccommend (and I certainly don't regret my time in France), but I think it's a challenge to make it last forever.
While living in Paris is glamorized on TV (hey, Emily), the fact is that almost all the expats I know struggle in one way or another.
So for these reasons, I prefer America my home base and to visit France often!

This past Saturday, the Paris National Ballet opened for the season. I recommend seeing Giselle if you are interested in experiencing a production at the Palais Garnier.

Where Are All the Female Designers in Paris?
L'Officiel's Laura Neilson investigates.
"Is French fashion staring down an identity crisis? Even posed as a question, the concept’s implications are unflattering. And yet considering how few French designers are actually installed as the heads of Paris’s largest and most established maisons—Chanel, Dior, Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Celine, for example—the inquiry merits interrogation. France’s female designers are even fewer, making Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, who’s presided over Hermès since 2014, practically a unicorn."

This Thursday, October 2, 2025, the iconic film Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, or The Young Girls of Rochefort in English, will make its grand debut as a musical at the Théâtre du Lido in Paris. This vibrant adaptation of Jacques Demy's beloved 1967 film, featuring music by Michel Legrand, promises to bring a fresh wave of color and joy to the stage.

Paris will welcome a new cultural landmark in 2030 with the opening of a free Picasso park in the heart of the city. Designed as an extension of the Picasso Museum, the garden will span the size of two Olympic swimming pools and showcase around a dozen bronze sculptures by the artist, including the celebrated life-sized piece "The She-Goat" from 1950. The future site will be a “magical” retreat to escape the city’s bustle, engage directly with the artworks, and relax at a café-restaurant overlooking the sculptures.

"After residing at the Pont Royal for a little over a month, the Childs relocated to a classic Parisian building just a few blocks away. “It had a gray cement facade, a grand front door about eight feet high, a small interior courtyard, and an open-topped cage elevator,” Child wrote. “It was large, centrally located, and a bit weird.” Saying “81 Rue de l’Universite” proved to be a bit of a mouthful for Child, and so her beloved “Roo de Loo” was born."

Sezane launches a sneaker collaboration with New Balance on October 3
This exclusive sneaker showcases a streamlined silhouette with a wedge-style midsole that nods to classic ’70s design. Its palette of deep burnt orange, navy, and brown captures warm, earthy shades ideal for autumn wear. Finishing the look is a hand-stitched detail across the upper, adding texture and reinforcing the retro charm that defines Sézane’s signature style.

Lastly, former President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in prison for criminal conspiracy related to illegal campaign funding from Libya, marking a significant shock to France. This ruling makes him the first French head of state to face jail time in decades, following a series of legal challenges since leaving office in 2012. Stripped of the Legion of Honour, Sarkozy vehemently denounced his conviction and maintains his innocence.

His son, Louis Sarkozy, off the heels of publishing a book about Napoléon, has recently announced his candidacy for mayor of the southern French coastal town of Menton, which happens to be one of my favorite places to visit in the summer!
