November 22, 2020 – Bonjour from not-so-sunny Paris, France!
Comment ça va?
I'm sure many of you noticed, but I changed up the content on my Instagram account a few weeks ago. I decided to start sharing real French street style – mostly within my small neighborhood as we are currently under lockdown numéro deux.
I hope you like the new format! If you're wondering why I made the change, I'll explain here:
When I started the account around two years ago, I was so inspired by the few French women sharing candid shots of their looks and daily lives. Only a few women were doing it and it felt so authentic to me. I loved that they used a smartphone instead of a professional camera. I loved that the shots were imperfect and in the moment.
Since then, the number of French influencers has grown considerably, and while there's nothing wrong with that, the authenticity that inspired me two years ago just isn't there any more. I've also already shared most of the photos that originally inspired me the most. I felt like I was forcing myself to post new photos and share more, more, more, and the whole thing just wasn't as enjoyable for me as it was at the beginning.
That's why I've shifted gears to creating the content myself.
It's been a challenge for me to stop women on the street and ask to take their photo. When you see street style photography, it seems so easy! Like, hey I'll just take this shot and the lighting will be perfect and the background is amazing and the person looks casual and natural instantly!
...yeah, in real life it's not like that at all!
But it's a fun challenge for me which I am enjoying.
I hope you guys will stick around through this transition! I'm not a professional photographer by any means but I absolutely love taking portraits of people. At the end of the day, it's a compliment to ask someone to take their photo on the street, right?
I'm also going to be adding some editorial content as well as more interviews into the feed as soon as our lockdown lifts, so it won't only be a street style page.
Lots of good things ahead!
To wear the red beret or not to wear the red beret... I hardcore analyzed every noteworthy moment in the show that everyone loves to hate to share the most real (and most rediculously absurd) scenarios.
In other news, I went to Paris Fashion Week (during a pandemic, so not really the same, but still!) last month!
I primarily went to photograph the street style outside the shows which was a great way for me to practice my street portraits.
The Chanel show was the most interesting to photograph in terms of street style, and I even got to snap a photo of Camille Charrière that kind of went viral on Instagram, racking up 18,000 likes! Pretty crazy considering how haphazardly I snapped the shot.
I also went to a press day for the French cult beauty product retailer, Oh My Cream in a gorgeous Parisian style apartment in the 7th arrondissement!
French leather handbag brand Polène opened a new flagship in central Paris and Camille invited me for a visit. I couldn't resist snapping a photo of her outfit and she inspired me to start wearing brown leather waist belts around all my coats and blazers this fall!
Please feel free to share with me your thoughts, ideas, and feedback on the content of the site & instagram ! It's always a pleasure to hear from you guys.
Gros bisous,
